Members of the SAR Community Outreach Committee joined 20 other companies and organizations at the Sac City Community College Spring Career Fair. Unlike other booths, who were searching for possible candidates for employment, SAR and its volunteers instead provided information about starting a career in real estate and the many benefits associated with it.

Early this past Saturday morning, a usually quiet Colonial Heights neighborhood was alive with sounds of pounding hammers, buzzing skillsaws and the excited chatter of people. These were people who, under the guidance of their own hearts, had made the decision that they would volunteer this beautiful April morning. To dedicate one’s time, energy and skills with no pay requires a kind heart and the desire to help. There were definitely some very giving people working on this day.

Yesterday we received a call from a reporter with CBS Channel 13, looking to do a story on real estate agents who uses Twitter, Facebook and other new media to help sell real estate. He ended up interviewing both Rob McQuade and Erin Attardi and they were featured on CBS Nightly News.
People having trouble selling homes are using social networking sites like Twitter to get the word out about houses. Andrew Luria reports…

I was speaking last week with Barbara Harsch, the Sacramento Association of Realtors President-Elect, and she asked me to write a blog post about a the new “Mortgage Protection Program” just introduced by the California Association of Realtors Housing Affordability Fund.
Some of you may remember from a previous post by Janelle Fallan, the Sacramento Association of Realtors raised $22,904 for CARHAF in 2008.

SAR held its very first Swap Meet on Saturday, April 18th. Our brave sellers showed up bright and early at 8 in the morning to set up their booths. Members rented the spaces to sell everything from home staging items, office furniture, lock boxes, books, kitchen wares, jewelry and a multitude of other wonderful things. Sales were brisk as shoppers scooped up bargains! And while the deals were hot many could argue that the BBQ was even hotter. Hamburgers and hot dogs that would make Gordon Ramsey drool were grilled up by grill masters Tony Vicari and Rico Rivera with the proceeds from the sales going to the SAR Scholarship Fund. SAR hops to make the Swap Meet an annual affair and will be looking to expand it even more by adding more benefits such as adding e-waste removal and shredding to future events… and maybe even more puppies. The SAR Staff would like to give a gigantic thank you to the Members of the YPC who came out and helped with the event!

Sacramento Association of REALTORS®’ civic contributions have placed it 14th in the list of 25 top companies for corporate philanthropy, as compiled by the Sacramento Business Journal and published April 10 2009.
SAR’s position at #14 in 2008, in the midst of mostly for-profit businesses and in the midst of a real estate downturn, is a source of pride and an indicator of how REALTORS® are connected with the community and how they make a difference.
SAR reported cash contributions of $100,814 in 2008.

For those of you that have been visiting the blog using your iPhone/iPod Touch, you may have already noticed that our blog has been tuned for an iPhone application-like experience (including accelerometer support). While we’ve only seen reports of people viewing the site with an iPhone/iPod Touch, the site has also been optimized for viewing with the Google Android and Blackberry Storm mobile touch devices. And don’t worry; the site is still complete with comments, search, login, categories, tags, archives & more.

Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is possibly the most bandied-about phrase on the Web. Gurus are everywhere claiming to be able to get you top search engine positions in a hurry… at a price. Some actually can help you in this regard, but any fast results are usually based on techniques the search engines soon negate once they figure them out. So, how does the average real estate professional approach SEO for their personal or brokerage website or blog?
Here are some simple truths:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 13, 2009
(RESIDENTIAL RESALE STATISTICS March 2009)
Single family home sales increased in the month of March while the median sales price showed a change of less than 1%. This data, compiled by the Sacramento Association of REALTORS®, is collected from the MetroList® multiple listing services and covers Sacramento County and the City of West Sacramento. The 1,725 sales in March is a 9.5% increase over the 1,575 sales in the month prior. Year-over-year, this marks a 61.4% increase over the 1,069 sales of March 2008. A high level of distressed properties – 70.5% of all sales – greatly contributes to the favorable rate of sales, and also keeps the median sales price low.

As a graduate of the first Sacramento Association of Realtors “Leadership Development Series” in 2008, I wanted to be sure to encourage my fellow Realtors and Affiliates to participate in this program.
Prior to my involvement in the series, I had attended a few Downtown Regional Meetings, and was involved in SAR’s Young Professionals Council. I attended the regional meetings out of necessity – to pitch my listings for tour. I became involved in YPC because I had been invited to do so by another member…other than that, my involvement at SAR was limited – mainly because I did not know that most committees and forums are open to the general membership, I had little knowledge of what SAR offers, and why what it offers would be of benefit to me or anyone else.
