As a graduate of the first Sacramento Association of Realtors “Leadership Development Series” in 2008, I wanted to be sure to encourage my fellow Realtors and Affiliates to participate in this program.
Prior to my involvement in the series, I had attended a few Downtown Regional Meetings, and was involved in SAR’s Young Professionals Council. I attended the regional meetings out of necessity – to pitch my listings for tour. I became involved in YPC because I had been invited to do so by another member…other than that, my involvement at SAR was limited – mainly because I did not know that most committees and forums are open to the general membership, I had little knowledge of what SAR offers, and why what it offers would be of benefit to me or anyone else.
Through my participation in the Leadership Development Series, I was introduced to most of the different SAR forums and committees, I learned how our local (and state / national) association helps its membership and the interests of property owners via the political action process, I learned more about our local MLS, I learned about SAR’s wonderful Scholarship program, I learned more about SAR’s Retail Center, I learned more about SAR’s charitable giving, I learned about SAR’s educational offerings, I learned more about the Masters Club, I gained insight into the elected and staff roles at SAR, and I got to participate in or attend several great SAR events – like International Realtor Day, Rebuilding Together, CanTree building, the Centennial Gala, and more. I gained appreciation for what the Sacramento Association of Realtors really does and how it truly benefits both its members and the general public… because I really had no idea what our dues really pay for. Best of all, I met several outstanding Realtors and Affiliates, and had a great time doing participating in all the program had to offer! The meeting times were generally very convenient, and dates were planned well in advance so that they were easily worked into my already busy schedule.
I found it to be an invaluable and energizing process, integral to my personal and professional development. Now, in addition to being the Vice Chair of YPC and attending the Regional Meetings, I participate a lot more at SAR… and I love every second of it.
You get out of it what you put in to it… so ask yourself – what are you putting into SAR? There is no better time than NOW to get involved with our fantastic association! Perhaps I will see you around?
