Greening at Public Issues Forum

SMUD Board member Nancy Bui presented at Public Issues Forum today on just a few great things about our local public utility. SMUD has rebates for dual pane windows, dishwashers, and solar hot water heaters just to name a few.  These rebates are so popular that SMUD has provided $55 million in customer savings!

Nancy recently made many energy efficient upgrades in her own home, and was impressed by the savings she saw on her bill. She said SMUD understands the importance of these programs, as well as the value to the housing market because such improvements increase resale values.

Nancy also spoke briefly about consumer transition. Years ago consumers wanted low rates and reliable energy. In the wave of greening, consumers now also demand clean energy. The State of California passed AB 32 a few years ago requiring the State to reduce their carbon footprint 20% by 2020. Nancy said that SMUD will be the first utility to reach this goal, and plans to go beyond their mandated reduction.

You can read more about this meeting on SAR Member Erin Attardi’s blog.

Public Issues Forum is open to any SAR member on the third Friday every month. Please join us Friday, June 19th for another great presentation!
