Young Professionals Council – For the Young AND Young at Heart!

When I speak to most REALTORS® and Affiliates about participating in a Young Professionals Council event, most tell me, “Oh, I am too old to attend.” Not true!

While the Young Professionals Council Steering Committee members must be in their 20s and 30s, there really is something for everyone at all of our events – and we do not check your ID at the door. All SAR Members are welcome to attend any of our events. We learn a lot, network with other professionals, and we have FUN, too. Our monthly forums are educational in nature and past topics have included Going Green, Marketing Tools, Social Networking, Today’s Loan Programs and more.

YPC has matured a great deal in the past year. 2008 was a successful year, and a year of many firsts. In addition to our regular monthly forum, we added informal monthly happy hour events. These events are free to attend and encourage networking and mingling with the best folks in our business. Also in 2008, YPC’s events raised over $3,300 for the Loaves & Fishes Mustard Seed School via its first Vendor Fair & BBQ, and raised over $2,800 for C.A.R’s Housing Affordability Fund through its first Bowling Tournament.

In 2009, we are well on our way to exceeding last year’s fundraising efforts. Our second annual Vendor Fair & BBQ event was well attended on June 2 in the SAR parking lot immediately following the June Main Meeting. All proceeds from this event benefitted the SAR Scholarship Trust. As a group, we are really excited to contribute toward the education of other young people in our community.

We are also planning our second annual Bowling Tournament to benefit the California Association of REALTORS’ Housing Affordability Fund (planned for September 12th), and a themed dance/gala event (planned November 13th). In 2009, we added a Facebook group page, and are currently working in conjunction with SAR staff to develop a web presence.

So what’s next for YPC? Join us for a Rivercats game vs. the Colorado Springs Sky Sox on June 25th at Raley
Field. Tickets are $25, paid in advance, and include tasty ballpark food and drink. Funds raised will benefit the SAR Scholarship Trust.

The SAR Young Professionals Council monthly forum is held at 9am on the third Thursday of each month. YPC
