 What is my favorite season? Well if you know me at all, you will know what the answer is – Baseball season! And on that note, one of my absolute favorite YPC events from last year was our Sacramento Rivercats Tailgate Party and Game. Recently our Young Professionals Council received word that it has been officially recognized by the National Association of REALTORS® as the Sacramento Chapter of its Young Professionals Network. I have had the chance to meet the leadership of other NAR YPN chapters at various events this year, and there are going to be some fantastic offerings from YPN in the time to come. Reflecting on 2009, I am extremely proud of what our Young Professionals Council has accomplished! We have raised thousands of dollars for charitable causes, and have given REALTORS® and Affiliates a forum to network and exchange ideas. Did you know that we have been able to engage hundreds of SAR members at our forums and events? I am very much looking forward to being your YPC Chair in 2010 and I know that Nikki Chapman is also looking forward to being YPC Vice-Chair. Continue reading: Young Professionals Council – December 2009 SAR’s YPC Logo I am pleased to announce that the Sacramento Association of Realtors “Young Professionals Council” has been approved by the National Association of Realtors as an official member of their “ When I speak to most REALTORS® and Affiliates about participating in a Young Professionals Council event, most tell me, “Oh, I am too old to attend.” Not true! While the Young Professionals Council Steering Committee members must be in their 20s and 30s, there really is something for everyone at all of our events – and we do not check your ID at the door. All SAR Members are welcome to attend any of our events. We learn a lot, network with other professionals, and we have FUN, too. Our monthly forums are educational in nature and past topics have included Going Green, Marketing Tools, Social Networking, Today’s Loan Programs and more. I was speaking last week with Barbara Harsch, the Sacramento Association of Realtors President-Elect, and she asked me to write a blog post about a the new “Mortgage Protection Program” just introduced by the California Association of Realtors Housing Affordability Fund. Some of you may remember from a previous post by Janelle Fallan, the Sacramento Association of Realtors raised $22,904 for CARHAF in 2008. Continue reading: CAR Housing Affordability Fund’s Mortgage Protection Plan (CARHAFMPP) As a graduate of the first Sacramento Association of Realtors “Leadership Development Series” in 2008, I wanted to be sure to encourage my fellow Realtors and Affiliates to participate in this program. Prior to my involvement in the series, I had attended a few Downtown Regional Meetings, and was involved in SAR’s Young Professionals Council. I attended the regional meetings out of necessity – to pitch my listings for tour. I became involved in YPC because I had been invited to do so by another member…other than that, my involvement at SAR was limited – mainly because I did not know that most committees and forums are open to the general membership, I had little knowledge of what SAR offers, and why what it offers would be of benefit to me or anyone else.
