Re: NAR Update: Foreclosures and Bank Meetings

Dear fellow REALTOR®,

Recently, there have been widespread reports of problems related to foreclosures. NAR has sent a letter to regulators expressing our concerns. We also have posted articles and talking points to help you answer questions from consumers and the media. Please visit Realtor.org/foreclosure for the latest developments and additional information.

On a separate note, the NAR Leadership Team has held several meetings during the past two months with the heads of major national banks to discuss problems with short sales and the availability of credit to potential buyers. Our position has always been that we want to help homeowners avoid foreclosure, whenever possible.

Below is a summary of the issues we have asked lenders to address. We also have posted a detailed report for your review on Realtor.org.

Although we feel the banks have made some progress, it is clear that much still needs to be done. We will be meeting with Chase later this month, and those discussions will focus on the problems with foreclosures and short sales. You can help our efforts by sharing your experiences with NAR via e-mail at HAFA@realtors.org.

We thank you for your continued work on behalf of homebuyers and homeowners, and we look forward to seeing all of you in New Orleans this November.

NAR Update: Tax Credit Deadline Extended; Flood Insurance Program Reinstated

Re: NAR Update: Tax Credit Deadline Extended; Flood Insurance Program Reinstated

Dear fellow REALTOR®,

I am happy to report that Congress has passed a bill extending the Homebuyer Tax Credit closing deadline to September 30, 2010. This is a huge win for REALTORS® and homebuyers, and NAR worked closely with members of Congress to make it happen.

The extension applies only to transactions that had ratified contracts in place as of April 30, 2010, and have not yet closed. There will be no gap between June 30 and the date the President signs the bill into law.

Additionally, Congress has extended the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) through September 30th. The bill is retroactive and will cover the lapse period from June 1, 2010, to the date the law is enacted.  NAR will continue to work with Congress on the NFIP Reform bill, and we will keep you posted on those efforts.

Dear fellow REALTOR®,

NAR Update: New 2010 Public Awareness Campaign Ads

Re: NAR Update: New 2010 Public Awareness Campaign Ads

Dear fellow REALTOR®,

With the homebuyer tax credit set to expire tomorrow, the Public Awareness Campaign is ready to roll out a brand new ad campaign to help support you in your businesses. The new campaign, “What Matters Most,” reminds buyers and sellers that, despite challenges in today’s economy, homeownership continues to be the foundation of the American Dream.

The campaign will deliver persuasive messages about the true value of owning a home, the role homeownership plays in building communities, and the advantages of working with a REALTOR®.

Beginning May 1, new TV and radio spots will begin airing across national network and cable outlets. National print and online advertising will also continue – ads will run in national premium consumer magazines like Martha Stewart Living, Real Simple, Popular Mechanics and This Old House, and online on sites including HGTV.com, DIYnetwork.com, RealSimple.com, TLC.com, About.com and ThisOldHouse.com.

In fact, 96 percent of U.S. households will be exposed to campaign messages as a result of NAR’s national media buy.

The campaign is clearly convincing consumers of the value REALTORS® bring to buyers, sellers and investors. Seventy three percent of consumers surveyed said they would be more likely to use a REALTOR® in their next transaction than an agent who wasn’t a REALTOR® — up from only 50 percent in 2001.

NAR Update: Help for Haiti

Re: NAR Update: Help for Haiti

Dear Fellow REALTOR®,

By now, we all know about the severe devastation caused by the earthquakes in Haiti. NAR is helping answer the calls for help in two key ways.

First, we are contributing $550,000 to charities that will help bring much-needed supplies and care to the people of Haiti. Included in that sum is $100,000 donated by our REALTOR Benefits® Program partner, Lowe’s®, which we have matched at $100,000. From that we will donate $50,000 to The Harvest of Haiti, founded by REALTOR® Patrick Moore, a 2007 Good Neighbor Award winner. Patrick has done great work for several years in Haiti supporting orphans, delivering clean water and providing medical care for more than 3,500 people a year.

We are also contributing $500,000 to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, which is supporting earthquake recovery efforts with immediate relief and long-term support to earthquake survivors. For up-to-the-minute information about these efforts, visit NAR’s Haiti relief page on REALTOR.org.

Second, I have asked NAR to accept donations from REALTORS® through the REALTORS® Relief Foundation.  Please consider giving today. To make a donation, go to www. realtor.org/relief, and complete the contribution form.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said: “An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.”

NAR Update: 2010 Public Awareness Campaign Ads

Re: NAR Update: 2010 Public Awareness Campaign Ads

Dear Fellow REALTOR®,

As we kick off a New Year, I want you to know that NAR is doing everything we can to reach consumers with information about the extended and expanded home buyer tax credit and to encourage buyers and sellers to contact a REALTOR®.

Chief among those efforts is our 2010 Public Awareness Campaign!

As you may know, the Public Awareness Campaign remains one of the most popular NAR programs. In 2009, 97 percent of our members favored the advertising program that promotes REALTORS® and the value of homeownership, and 95 percent wanted to see more advertising like it.

This year’s campaign started early. New radio spots started airing in November 2009, and new TV spots began airing in December. This is the first time since the campaign’s inception that spots will air year-round. (This file will open in MS Excel; please click on “Open” to download.)

Beginning January 18, home buyers and sellers will begin to see national print and online advertisements, in addition to the TV and radio spots. Public Awareness Campaign ads will run in national premium consumer magazines like Martha Stewart Living, Real Simple, Popular Mechanics and This Old House, and online on Web sites including HGTV.com, DIYnetwork.com, RealSimple.com, TLC.com, About.com and ThisOldHouse.com. This all-out effort will help us reach even more consumers.
