SAR Members raises and give a great deal of money to various community organizations, and I can say from going to events to represent you, that the organizations are doing great good against high odds. I was unacquainted with many of these organizations and am humbled by the work they do.
The 2nd Annual Sip and Support fundraiser for Christmas CanTree and The Salvation Army was another hugely successful event. Following its “Ha-wine-ian” theme, the Carvalho Winery was transformed into a tropical luau setting with attendees outfitted in brightly colored flowered shirts and resort casual attire. Guests feasted on roasted pig, donated by John Quinn and Jennifer Albiani-Quinn, and prepared by Steve Coutrakis of J & J Realty. Carvalho Winery generously provided the wine at a discount, and our non-wine drinkers enjoyed Barbara Harsch’s famous non-alcoholic Hawaiian Punch and beer donated by Miller-Coors.
Channel 31’s Good Day Sacramento host Nick Toma and KFBK 1530 talk show host Terry Knight were the evening’s emcees. The Makamae Melia O’Polynesian dancers entertained guests during dinner, inspiring a few audience members to come up for a dance lesson.
The evening was kicked into high gear following dinner when the Halie O’Ryan Band, featuring drummer Bobby Campbell of Coastal Pacific Mortgage, began their first set. People danced until midnight when the event concluded.
More funds were raised as people bid on silent auction items and purchased raffle tickets for other great prizes donated by SAR REALTOR® and Affiliate Members. In addition, each ticket holder was entered into a drawing for three major prizes. Clint Swift won $500 in cash; Ava Simpson won an iPad; and Jennifer Merica took home a 42” flatscreen HDTV. Our major prize sponsor was CVM Law Group, LLC.
SAR’s Can Tree project was recognized at the annual Fair Housing Month celebration hosted by the Regional Human Rights/Fair Housing Commission today. The Commission presented SAR with a check for $300 in lieu of providing center pieces at the event. Over 300 community leaders and elected officials attended and were told how SAR raises [...]
Did you attend the YPC CanTree Fundraiser – Dancing Through the Decades? If not, you missed a fantastic event! Aside from enjoying great wines with tastings offered by Carvalho Family Winery, Revolution Wines, and Ehrhardt Estates; delicious food provided by BJ’s Brewery, Tokyo Fro’s, and Zocalo; dance music mixed by our very own DJ Rico Rivera; and a silent auction with items provided by numerous local donors, everyone had a great time…AND we raised over $4,000 for the Christmas CanTree!
On another note – It’s official! Recently our Young Professionals Council received word that it has been officially recognized by the National Association of REALTORS® as the Sacramento Chapter of its Young Professionals Network. I have had the chance to meet the leadership of other NAR YPN chapters at various events this year, and there are going to be some fantastic offerings from YPN in the time to come.
Reflecting on 2009, I am extremely proud of what our Young Professionals Council has accomplished! We have raised thousands of dollars for charitable causes, and have given REALTORS® and Affiliates a forum to network and exchange ideas. Did you know that we have been able to engage hundreds of SAR members at our forums and events? I am very much looking forward to being your YPC Chair in 2010 and I know that Nikki Chapman is also looking forward to being YPC Vice-Chair.
As a Sacramento REALTOR®, I feel privileged to work on CanTree year after year. I was recently asked why I do so. My inspiration goes back to the first Saturday after Thanksgiving 1994.
A group from our office had committed to The Salvation Army can drive at a local grocery store. It was crisp at 7:00 am to say least. But undaunted we put up our signs, rang the bells and greeted folks as they passed us in the parking lot. We were hopeful we would collect enough food not to embarrass ourselves.
Within the first 15 minutes a gentleman came back out of the store with a bag full of cans. As he placed the bag in our cart he said, “The Salvation Army helped my Mother put food on the table when my father was killed at Pearl Harbor. They really were the only thing we knew we could depend on”. Our group was taken aback, but we composed ourselves and continued ringing our bells.
In the next few minutes another man placed a few cans of yams in the cart. “When I got back from Viet Nam I got addicted and tried to kill myself. The Salvation Army is the reason I am alive. I could not have made it without them.” Once again we were stunned with an unsolicited personal story.
It was my pleasure to get to and kick off the event and introduce the Mayor of Elk Grove. What a great event, a real showcase for our efforts for this year once again… Thanks to all involved on behalf or our committee. Special Thanks to our own very talented Michelle Kloss for planning this event for our participation and to Deborah, Lily for helping us look so great in the eyes of this community!
I am pleased to announce that the Sacramento Association of Realtors “Young Professionals Council” has been approved by the National Association of Realtors as an official member of their “
As a graduate of the first Sacramento Association of Realtors “Leadership Development Series” in 2008, I wanted to be sure to encourage my fellow Realtors and Affiliates to participate in this program.
Prior to my involvement in the series, I had attended a few Downtown Regional Meetings, and was involved in SAR’s Young Professionals Council. I attended the regional meetings out of necessity – to pitch my listings for tour. I became involved in YPC because I had been invited to do so by another member…other than that, my involvement at SAR was limited – mainly because I did not know that most committees and forums are open to the general membership, I had little knowledge of what SAR offers, and why what it offers would be of benefit to me or anyone else.
