Patrick Lieuw Installed as 2012 President of the Sacramento Association of REALTORS

Chinese lion dancers highlighted the festivities as Patrick Lieuw was installed as the first Asian-American president and the 95th president of the Sacramento Association of REALTORS® on January 10 2012.

Patrick’s theme for 2012, “Focus on Collaboration,” highlights the value he places on the diversity of SAR’s Membership as well as his interest in photography. “This year I’m pulling out my widest angle lens, because I plan for an all-inclusive composition, and that means every single current member of the SAR, and as many new members as we can attract. Each one of us brings his or her own insights and background, and I’m not just talking about differences in gender and ethnicity. Many of us started out in a different career. I, for instance, was an engineer.”

He said, “While others have pointed out that I am the first Asian-American President of the SAR, all I want you to remember, is that we are all one ‘Realtor family’ working together, to better our Association and our clients.”

Patrick, a REALTOR® with RE/MAX Gold Natomas, has been a real estate broker and a Member of SAR for 23 years. He has also been a C.A.R. Director and Chair or Vice-Chair of numerous SAR and C.A.R. Committees. He is also involved in the Asian Real Estate Association of America, the Women’s Council of REALTORS® and the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals.

President’s Perspective – December 2011

2011 SAR President Doug Covill

Five goals – some specific, some far-reaching – have guided the leaders and staff of SAR this year as we all work to serve you, our Members. As you read through this brief review, you will see that we have accomplished a lot this year.

  1. Improve Communications
  2. Develop a Green Program
  3. Establish a 501 (c) 3 Foundation
  4. Increase Diversity in Participation and in the Leadership
  5. Continue Focusing on SAR as a Progressive, Evolving Organization

SAR’s new charitable foundation will be fully up and running in 2012. Kathy Fox led the task force and Charlene Singley now chairs the Foundation board. Kathy continues to serve as vice-chair.

SAR continues to be recognized for its charitable contributions. Allison Couchman and Jenifer Miller led the Community Outreach Committee. With fewer dollars to distribute, committee members shifted their efforts to developing relationships with the charities SAR Members support. Watch this newsletter every month to learn about the charities and how you can volunteer.

The CanTree Committee under Ilah Turner and Bobby Campbell put on the Crab Fest and Sip & Support and has just finished building two Can Trees. Twenty nine years and going strong! Thanks to their efforts, SAR has given more than $2 million to the Salvation Army.

Led by Sandi Burden-Bradley and Ted Williams, the Equal Opportunity Committee organized a highly successful Multi Chamber Mixer, with the numerous ethnic chambers of commerce in the Sacramento area. They also worked on strengthening our relationship with the Asian Real Estate Association of American, Realtists and the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals.

PRESIDENT'S PERSPECTIVE - Thank You, Thank You, Thank You

2009 SAR President - Charlene Singley

2009 SAR President - Charlene Singley

They say time flies, and boy, does it! This year has gone so very quickly, and quite successfully too, I might add. The credit for any success has to be given to the nearly 200 individuals who volunteered during the year in so many ways.

When I asked how many individual people serve in one or more capacities, I was astounded when I was told it is nearly 200 people. And, in most cases, they don’t serve on only one committee. The generosity of spirit and time is truly inspiring.

First of all, I am the first to acknowledge that nothing in this association gets done without the absolute best staff in the entire state! The reason I always praise Nelson Janes at meetings is just because he does such an excellent job. He is the reason SAR maintains an even keel year after year. His leadership enables the association to hire and maintain such a high-quality staff. Each and every one works tirelessly on your behalf and I appreciate so very much everything they do for all of us.

The Education Committee stepped up the pace this year with many classes covering the hot button issues. The new Lunch & Learn classes have been extremely successful. Jeff Jurach and Denise Ross-Francom, the Chair and Vice-chair, and their committee members have done an excellent job.

SAR Volunteers Rebuild Together

Early this past Saturday morning, a usually quiet Colonial Heights neighborhood was alive with sounds of pounding hammers, buzzing skillsaws and the excited chatter of people. These were people who, under the guidance of their own hearts, had made the decision that they would volunteer this beautiful April morning. To dedicate one’s time, energy and skills with no pay requires a kind heart and the desire to help. There were definitely some very giving people working on this day.

SAR’s First Swap Meet!

SAR held its very first Swap Meet on Saturday, April 18th. Our brave sellers showed up bright and early at 8 in the morning to set up their booths. Members rented the spaces to sell everything from home staging items, office furniture, lock boxes, books, kitchen wares, jewelry and a multitude of other wonderful things. Sales were brisk as shoppers scooped up bargains! And while the deals were hot many could argue that the BBQ was even hotter. Hamburgers and hot dogs that would make Gordon Ramsey drool were grilled up by grill masters Tony Vicari and Rico Rivera with the proceeds from the sales going to the SAR Scholarship Fund. SAR hops to make the Swap Meet an annual affair and will be looking to expand it even more by adding more benefits such as adding e-waste removal and shredding to future events… and maybe even more puppies. ;-) The SAR Staff would like to give a gigantic thank you to the Members of the YPC who came out and helped with the event!
