Christmas CanTree

Offices of all sizes host individual fundraising events to support this effort. Crab feeds, silent auctions, yard sales, raffles and chili cook-offs have raised from $250 to $20,000. The first ever off-site Christmas CanTree was displayed at the Westfield Downtown Plaza. It was a great success in raising public awareness of the Salvation Army’s Holiday Food Basket Program. In 2005 the Can Tree was built at not one but two local shopping malls, the Westfield Downtown Plaza and the Sunrise Mall in Citrus Heights. The fifteen-foot tall CanTrees were constructed of over 400 cases of canned food, weighing nearly five tons. Over one hundred REALTOR® volunteers join in helping build the CanTree’s every year. It just keeps getting better!

The 24th annual SAR Christmas Can Tree project consists of Can Trees installed in each of 3 major regional shopping centers for the duration of the holiday season. CanTrees grace the Westfield Downtown Plaza and Sunrise Mall in Citrus Heights again with the addition of the Country Club Plaza on Watt Avenue. The Christmas CanTree project is the Association’s largest community charity, and the Salvation Army’s single largest local fundraising event, feeding over 12,600 families each holiday season.
