The new SAR Charitable Foundation will help SAR extend its philanthropic efforts. In the words of Paula Swayne, Treasurer of the Charitable Foundation: “REALTORS® are deeply committed to the community and the neighborhoods in which they specialize. Part of their involvement in the community is supporting causes that enhance the lives of the people inhabiting those neighborhoods. By being involved, it is a win-win for the community and the REALTORS. “The Sacramento Association of REALTORS® Charitable Foundation gives REALTORS® a base from which to practice what they preach. We finally have the ability to help charitable organizations in a way that is beneficial for both the REALTORS® and the charities. The charities and REALTORS® have the comfort of knowing that the funds donated are recognized by the government as tax deductible. “I have been especially proud to be involved in Rebuilding Together. It is such a treat to actually meet the homeowners and work side-by-side with them to make so much of their dreams come true. I get to meet other committed groups and appreciate their involvement as well. Finally, and certainly not least, to see what we started with and what we turned over to the homeowner… there is just nothing like that!” Leon Williams, Treasurer of the Foundation, notes: “For a century REALTORS® in Sacramento have been making a positive impact on the communities within our borders. I have witnessed REALTORS® work very demanding schedules and still find time to do charitable works in the community. It’s that passion and love for our communities that REALTORS® at SAR have that enables them to work tirelessly and diligently to enrich the Sacramento and surrounding areas. The large amount of charitable work thus far has been accomplished largely by independent REALTORS® in the community, but the SAR Charitable Foundation will give REALTORS® greater ability to galvanize corporate support, thus multiplying the affects of their community efforts.” Charlene Singley, Chair of the Foundation, has said, “The true professionals in our business are always looking out and caring for and about someone or something else – be it our clients or our community.” When Charlene was President of SAR in 2009, she observed, “Because you live here, because your livelihood is helping people buy and sell property, you probably care intensely about your community. SAR Members don’t just sell homes – you sell the community. In every nook and cranny of Sacramento County, there is a REALTOR® who is a member of a local service club, neighborhood watch program or faith community. As an organization, SAR helps its Members become involved, whether doing home repairs for Rebuilding Together, building CanTrees or serving meals at Loaves and Fishes. “For more than 100 years, SAR Members have been promoting ethics and professionalism and working to strengthen our community. That’s how you get to be 100 years old.” SAR is now 104 years old. With the Foundation in place, SAR can be an even stronger presence in our community.
